Our response to Coronavirus: Important information to our families
We understand that you and your family may have questions and concerns about Covid-19 and Coastal Kids would like to inform you of the necessary steps we are taking to protect the safety and health of our patients, families and our staff.
At Coastal Kids, it is our priority to provide safe patient care.
As an added safety precaution, all our providers and staff are required to wear a mask while working and we have implemented daily temperature checks for these staff each morning, prior to seeing patients. Staff are also prepared with additional personal protective equipment, which includes gowns and goggles, as needed, to keep our team members and patients safe during this crisis.
We now will require that all patients and accompanying visitors over the age of three wear a mask when entering Coastal Kids clinics.
You will notice that at all five Coastal Kids locations, we have increased the frequency of sanitation efforts in each of our waiting rooms and exam rooms. Our cleaning procedures are rigorous and occur multiple times throughout the day. We are consistently sanitizing all waiting rooms and exam rooms with top of the line medical-grade cleaners. We have also installed protective shields at our reception counters to add an extra layer of protection during the check in and check out processes. We have further encouraged distancing measures with 6 feet separation marks in all the reception areas.
To prevent unintended exposure, and until further notice, all visits are by appointment only, with no walk-ins.
The best way to decrease the spread of this virus is to practice social distancing and provide appropriate appointment schedules. Not only do we have separate areas in each of our locations for sick patients and well patients, we have taken the initiative to designate specific appointment types, well visits vs. sick visits, to separate clinic locations to further prevent the virus spread. Our schedules change daily, so please contact your office for more information.
Also, we will attempt to fast track your appointment the best we can. We now allow you to call us once you have arrived in our parking lot to check you in from the car. When we have an exam room ready for you, we will call to notify you and you will be directed to the room for the appointment.
To keep the risk at a minimum, we ask that only one parent or guardian accompany the patient and that all people over the age of 60 stay at home.
More than ever, it is crucial to address any questions or concerns, and to promote the health and wellness of your child. It is important to stay up to date with their well-child checks, necessary vaccines, and other assessments to assure your child is protected from other illnesses that may be preventable.
Coastal Kids is offering Telemedicine, visits completed via audio and video communications, as an option for families/patients that are in need of treatment, or would like to be seen by a Provider for evaluation, but are not comfortable leaving the safety of their home.
Here is the list of types of appointments possible for video appointments:
- Mild cold symptoms
- Pink eye
- Feeding problems infant
- Sleep Disturbances
- ADHD follow up (stable patient)
- Menstrual related issues
- Lab follow ups
- Medical counseling (ex. Diet, diabetes, exercise)
- Anxiety and depression follow up (stable patients)
If you would like to take advantage of these services, please call our office and your appointment will be scheduled with one of our available providers. Our staff will assist you with getting set-up to see the provider. Also, please contact your insurance plan to confirm if your benefits cover telemedicine visits. Currently the majority of insurers cover this benefit.
Drive Up Visits
We offer the option of drive-up care in our parking lots. For certain types of visits, you may be able to receive a visit from the doctor without leaving your vehicle. For more information about which locations this is available, and if the appointment type needed is eligible, please call your local office.
Drive Up Testing
Coastal Kids is now offering drive-up testing for COVID-19. This option is only available after completing a telemedicine or drive up appointment and receiving an order from one of our Providers. The hours and location of this service will change often, so be sure to call your local office for more information.
If you suspect your child may have COVID-19, schedule a telemedicine appointment right away. A doctor will assess your child’s symptoms via video call, to determine if they meet the criteria for testing. In addition to nasopharyngeal swab testing and antibody testing through Quest and Labcorp, Coastal Kids now has a limited supply of Rapid Covid-19 tests that detect two kinds of antibodies. The Rapid Covid-19 antibody tests are available for an out of pocket fee to PPO and Cash Pay patients. Once your child has met criteria, you may take advantage of our drive-up testing in the parking lot. To limit the chance of spreading the illness to other patients, we do not conduct this testing in our offices.
Due to the rapidly changing situation, we will do our best to keep you updated. We have a tremendous, dedicated, and professional staff that are working day and night to keep all our patients safe and informed. Please check back on our social media channels for up-to-date changes. Thank you to all our families for your confidence and support during this unimaginable crisis. We are confident that together, we can get through the next several months.
