Dr. Berruecos was born in Los Angeles, California and comes from Colombian descent. He grew up in the North Hollywood area and became a licensed neonatal/pediatric respiratory care therapist for 10 years.

He later attended college at the University of California, San Diego to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Physiology. He went on to attend medical school at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine in the state of New Mexico. During his time in medical school, he started a medical student run club that provided free health fairs to the local community and free STEM fairs to the local schools. He then followed his passion for pediatrics and completed his residency in general pediatrics at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas. After completing his residency, Dr. Berruecos moved to Bakersfield to be closer to family and joined the Coastal Kids – Southwest team in 2024.

Steve is married and has two children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, practicing martial arts, helping his son train in Taekwondo and growing Bonsai trees!

Dr. Berruecos believes in the importance of the doctor, family and child unit. He approaches his patients’ health in body, mind and spirit in order to help them prosper and ultimately grow into healthy adults.
